Jose Raul Capablanca, of Cuba, was the 3rd World Chess Champion. He was considered to be a true Chess genius, a natural player that spent very little time preparing for his tournament appearances. Throughout his entire Chess career, he suffered fewer than 50 losses. For a period of 8 years, he didn't lose a single game, which includes his 14-game World Championship match with Lasker . In 1927, he lost his World Champion title to his main rival Alexander Alekhine of Russia. 

The Capablanca Series Chessmen come with gold embossed leather pads on both Kings, a personalized Certificate of Authenticity and an original manufacturer's label indicating the production number. Our Cambridge Staunton chess set blends traditional and contemporary for a unique and beautiful chess set. The knight has fine detail including a an ornate braided mane and finely detailed eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. The replication of the carvers work from knight to knight is remarkable. The king comes with two different crowns, a decorative formee cross and a finial that can be interchangd according to the players preference. The other pieces are equally beautiful and consistent with the personality of this chess set.

The red sandalwood is gorgeous with a blend of rich colors that range from coral red to dark burgundy. The boxwood is beautifully grained and with the ideal medium amber color. This chess set has a 3" tall king and with a unique and elegant knight that features ornate detail and a bridle. The fine detail carved into the knight is exquisite with special attention paid to the eyes ears nose and mouth. The replication of the carvers work from knight to knight is remarkable. The red sandalwood is gorgeous with a blend of rich colors that range from coral red to dark burgundy. The boxwood is beautifully grained and with the ideal medium amber color. The king queen and bishops have columns with proportionate width and graceful curve. The king has a slight concave top which is quite unique and 2 different finials that can be interchanged according to your personal taste. The queen has a unique and attractive bowl shaped head and 12 sharp points that are perfectly spaced. The bishop miter is average size with a narrow straight slot. The rooks have a wide base and stand just below the top of the knight s head and have an attractive shallow parapet with perfectly cut crenels. The Sultan is truly a masterpiece in wood and belongs in all great chess set collections!
